Moonlighting Backfires for Employee
February 1st, 2012A local man who successfully claimed unfair dismissal went on to operate his own driving school. His employer appealed the decision when it discovered that the employee had been moonlighting during his sick leave to train as a driving instructor. He had acted dishonestly with his employers which “is a very serious matter in the context of employer-employee relations” said the judge.

The Crown Court found that he had failed to meet the “standards of behaviour expected of PC’s”. The force’s head of professional standards stated that “we remind the public that the vast majority of officers behave with integrity, that they can have confidence in the work we do and the commitment we have to the highest standards”. A crown court judge appeared under a dangerous dog charge in a magistrates court chewing gum and describing the verdict against her a “f**king travesty”. She was suspended from duty pending a disciplinary process, but has since ‘retired on medical grounds’ from her position as a judge.
